    Positional Opportunity

In the game of poker online, several factors influence how each player can play a hand. Starter cards are the first and obvious guideline. Then you must consider the types of players populating the table and adjust your strategy to your opponents’ different styles. Another critical element in how to play the cards is one’s position in the betting round.

The players seated to the immediate left of the dealer button are in early position, and are the blind spots in Texas Hold ‘em. They put in their blind bets, and if they continue in the hand, the small is first to act, then the big blind is second during ensuing rounds.

Players in early position are at some disadvantage because they must act before anyone else with no information about the hands they are up against. When in early position, it’s best to only play very strong cards.

Those in middle position - seated 3-6 places to the left of the blinds - have a little more information to base their decisions on, but it is still incomplete because there are bettors behind these seats who might raise. Players in middle position can play slightly more speculative hands pre-flop but should fold if the flop misses their online poker hands and there are still players in contention behind these seats.

Players in late position have the advantage during betting because they have seen what the other players ahead of them have done. The player on the button immediately to the right of the small blind has the last betting option every round after the flop. The seat to the immediate right of the button is known as the “cut off” because this player may put out a big bet in front of the button, and cause that player to fold. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.
