Company Laptop for Personal Use? No Problem for the Brits
A recent survey has expressed that a majority of British employees believe in using the company provided laptop for non-official use. Most people consider the use quite acceptable and do not see any harm coming out of the practice. Opinion Matters, the market research agency, was hired by mobile giant Vodafone to conduct the survey.
Almost half of the respondents admitted to using the laptop for personal purposes after company hours, especially for connecting to the internet via their personal broadband connectivity.
Experts have been repeatedly warning companies to have the latest security software installed in the laptops to make sure that use of the laptop from outside of the company firewall is secure and does not compromise confidential business data. However, the survey showed that 65% of the managers had no objection to the employees using the laptop for personal use.
