Shedding The Dieting Myths - For Successful Weight Management

    March 31st, 2009

Clearing the Path for Successful Weight Management

Dieters striving for success in their efforts to manage their weight may have more than just unwanted pounds to lose. First, they have to shed some common myths about dieting.

Myths about dieting instil false hopes in people striving to manage their weight, misleading them to formulate lofty expectations that only serve to frustrate their efforts and stunt their progress.

Indeed, there is little evidence - if any at all - to support three common myths about dieting, as reviewed in a recent edition of Healthy Weight Journal. Demystifying the myths about dieting and learning the trust about the effects of calorie restriction are important steps in beginning to give up dieting and start eating normally as part of a healthy lifestyle that supports success at weight management.

Myth #1: Dieting makes you thin.

Most people who lose weight by dieting eventually regain the pounds, and most gain back even more than they lost. A review by the National Institutes of health of all published studies on the efficacy of weight loss treatments indicates that people, regardless of their weight, lost an average of only 10 pounds over many weeks and months of dieting (and for many of these people, 10 pounds was a trivial amount of weight). Further, most of the weight lost was regained within one year, and almost all of the weight, for all of the people, was regained within five years.

What’s the reason for the lack of success? The authors of the article speculate that one reason may be the body’s natural reaction against weight loss. That’s not to say that we can’t optimize our natural tendencies in the weight arena, but the fact remains that genes predispose some people to obesity, particularly when they are in an environment that promotes overfeeding.

And that leads us to the second reason for the lack of success most people see with dieting. The inability to lose significant amounts of weight, or maintain weight loss, through dieting likely has a lot to do with the overeating that occurs when people go off the diet. You’ve heard it here before: If dieters think they’ve eaten foods they shouldn’t (which usually means beloved, high-calorie foods), they usually abandon their diets and splurge on large quantities of “forbidden” foods.

Myth #2: Dieters eat less than non-dieters.

Not so. Studies show that restrained eaters (or dieters) often consume more snacks and eat more frequently than unrestrained eaters (normal eaters). Overeating and increased hunger occur after periods of physical and psychological deprivation induced by periods of food restriction. The consequence? Very often, it’s a binge.

Myth #3: Dieting makes you happier.

Wrong again. Instead, the outcome of dieting seems to be the opposite - feelings of depression, anxiety and frustration. The fluid loss and empty stomach in the early stages of dieting are, in effect, come-ons. They offer encouragement to the dieter, but within a short period of time, the “baggage” attached to dieting begins to produce negative effects. The dieter can’t eat when, where or what she wants. Socializing becomes unappealing if the dieter is determined to stick with her diet. Some dieters become irritable and energy-depleted due to hunger. And obsession with food and eating begin to cloud the dieter’s ability to think about other things.

It’s not hard to see why Americans are struggling with an obesity epidemic, given that for several decades, most of the American population seemed to be permanently “on a diet.” Fortunately, more and more of us - and the health professionals who work with us - are getting the message that diets don’t work. As we have long promoted at Green Mountain, if we change our focus to health, we will take care of our weight. As important is the fact that achieving and maintain a state of health can be an enjoyable process. The keys are normal eating that includes the foods you love in amounts that leave you satisfied without feeling stuffed, regular physical activity that you enjoy, effective stress management, and feeling good about ourselves and our bodies, no matter what our weight. It helps to remember, as one speaker noted at a recent conference we attended, “Life is too short for self-hate and celery sticks!”

Short Format Videos Can Be Excellent when Marketing Your Businesses Products

    March 31st, 2009

Today, as a considerable number of companies and moguls are looking at internet video websites as a terrific place to upload content to grab the notice of their consumers, it’s critical to distinguish the key elements of using online video advertising portals.

Here are a number of vital bits and pieces you must be familiar with before you begin to upload professional videos on online video sites. Visit http://www.Vidify.co.uk for high-quality video production, distribution and marketing services.

Constantly make an effort to use professional videos that provide meaningful material to your customers - Scores of business people incorrectly believe you can merely put any brand of advertisement on a video portal, but nothing could be further from reality. Each and every video should offer some value added information to the desired market, or start topic of discussion.

Undertake some type of market research on the video sites previous to you adding your very 1st video - It’s a good plan to allocate some substantial time typing your market’s important keywords into the search engine on the site, in order to realise what competitor videos are currently available. Next make sure you have written down the profile names of the most important businesses in your niche. Possibly afterwards you can make a joint venture or have some kind of relationship with these firms.

It is important to keep in mind that every video website has a community built into it - You ought to value the other members & it’s advised that you add positive notes about your rivals’ videos. First & foremost you need to be a member of the community, supplying comment, ideas etc. And only then must you judge yourself as being a marketer and begin to distribute your very own 1 and firm.

Commit yourself to making numerous corporate videos - You ought to have an obvious strategy for developing and distributing numerous promotional videos. Or else, your organisation’s page on the video channels will appear blank if it just has one single video on it. Hence, provide time planning the creation of a number of short videos, rather than only one significantly lengthy video.

Online video marketing is one of the best & fastest manners of advertising your firm at this moment in time.

Tummy Tuck - Cosmetic Surgery Procedure

    March 29th, 2009

Tummy Tuck - Cosmetic Surgery Procedure

A tummy tuck cosmetic surgery procedure will take about two to five hours, depending on the nature of the job. If you are only receiving a partial abdominoplasty it will probably only take between one to two hours.

The surgical procedure starts with a long incision across the hipbone directly above the pubic area. Another cut is then made to remove the belly button from the original tissue in order to place it back after the surgery is complete.

The next step is to separate the skin from the lower torso area of the pubic area to the ribcage, revealing the muscles underneath. The exposed muscles are then stitched together which forces them to conform to their new position. This will create a more toned and defined waistline. The skin is then pulled down to the area of the initial incision, sown together and any excess skin is surgically removed. A new cut is then made for the navel and gauze bandages and a temporary tube to drain away excess fluid.

The first couple days after an abdominoplasty are the most painful because this is the time when there is the most soreness and swelling. It is very important not to disturb the stitches and sutures during this time. After about five to seven days the doctor will remove the stitches and the patient will need to wear a specially designed support garment to ensure proper healing.

Returning to normal life after this surgery takes a bit more time. A great deal of the recovery has to do with your physical condition and the amount of physical activity performed after the surgery. Some patients can return to work as little as two weeks after the procedure, but others take longer to heal. After around nine months the scarring should subside, giving you the freedom to show off your new stomach.

Anger Isn’t Spiritual - How to Hide It Fast!

    March 28th, 2009

The readers of this article can probably be divided into two main groups.

Those who resonate with the title of this article and want to know how to hide and overcome such a shameful and primitive (uncivilised) emotion as anger.

And those who are angry at me for even suggesting that it should be repressed.

Bear with me for another moment, because just as the emotion of anger isn’t what it seems, neither is this article.

A few days ago my own rage burst forth at the total lack of professionalism and common courtesy of a professional organisation I joined. They had cashed my payment immediately, but kept me waiting for the activated membership service for 10 weeks! Despite numerous calls and an email, the only indication that they had received and accepted my application was the fact that my bank balance was reduced.

When my patience wore thin, I left a ’slightly’ less sugary monologue on their ever present answer phone. A few days later, I checked their website and was almost more furious to find that they had posted my details without even letting me know. I felt they owed me a bit of a human touch, maybe an apology. After all, they were supposed to be the ones controlling the professional standards of therapists who deal with the emotional and physical well-being of others.

How could they be so rude! Instead of being happy that the deed was finally done, there was a nasty, angry little voice inside me - raving and ranting and jumping up and down like good old Rumpelstilzken in the fairy tale.

For a few minutes I swam the angry tide, furiously paddling and thrashing inside, my inner dialogue dizzily drawing smaller and smaller circles. Then, I thought I’d better walk the talk, do as I preach in my seminars and figure out how this experience can help me make some personality progress.

    Here’s the method I use:

First, I take a little inventory of what’s happening inside and notice whether my reaction is in proportion to the event. Are my emotions driving me forward to learn and make positive changes or are they dragging me into some dark dungeon where I wallow in my own self-pity until someone or something rescues me?

Most of the time, when thoughts go round and round in circles, it is perfectly clear that they are not of the empowering, energising kind - so, the next step is to ask myself exactly which buttons this event has pushed.

What did it remind me of? What previous experience (sometimes from way back when…) is it like? And exactly what does it feel like inside? I take my thoughts away from the event itself and focus on the physical sensations it’s causing inside me.
Then, I make the conscious decision to transform and let go of this particular kind of energy.

Sometimes, it’s as easy as concentrating on the fiery sensation the anger has caused and allowing it to cool and disperse. At other times, I need to play a few tricks on my mind to distract myself from my thoughts.

What’s important is that I remind myself that the choice of wallowing or soaring is always mine. I can learn and move on or I can follow the downward spiral until I’ve hit the bottom and finally got the message.

Next time someone or something really pushes your anger button, what will you choose? A new vision that lets you see the bigger picture of your own internal life, or just a blinding rage? If you go inside, you can emerge calmer, more positive, and lighter. Anger is a heavy load to carry. Isn’t it great to know that the choice to let go of it is yours?

Annett Tate helps people transcend their anger through her “Subtle Energy” seminars and coaching. Her website is a treasure trove of information on stress management, relaxation, meditation, self-hypnosis, and much more.

    Real Life Algebra Use

    March 27th, 2009

Algebra is one of the most key subdivisions of mathematics that is often presented to students in Jr. High. As a matter of fact, many pupils find algebra as a challenging study area to understand. It is really an advanced form of mathematics that takes the student through a study of structure, relation and quantity.

    The Common Methods

Although ‘variables’ is one of the often used terms in computer science, this is first presented in algebra. This is often used when adding and subtracting radicals . When adding or subtracting radicals the radicals essentially be the same order before you add or subtract them.

You can take the frustration out of finding the least common denominator by listing the multiples of each denominator and dividing by 2,3,4, and so on. After that you should look at the smallest number. An example is multiples of 5 are 10, 15, 20, 30. Multiples of 6 are 12, 18, 24, 30, and multiples of 15 are 30, 45, 60. So in this example, 30 (5 in to 6) is the smallest number which is common to both the number lists.
You can easily reduce a fraction by finding a common factor in the numerator and denominator. A common factor is going to be a number that will evenly divide into both numbers. As an example 3 is a common factor for 6 and 12. Three will equally divide into 6 and into 12. You could also look at 2 being a common factor for 4 and 14. The same division process needs to be repeatedly executed until there are no common factors left. You can also do this same procedure by finding the GCF of both the numerator and the denominator. You will divide the numerator and the denominator by the greatest common factor instead of the common factor.

Getting out of Difficulty with Algebra

Sometime you might find difficulties getting along with algebra and can’t seem to find the solution you need. In this case, an algebra problem solver, typically a software, will be an ideal resolution for getting aid. With an algebra problem solver you will have the chance to input your figures and your problem will be solved instantly. Having access to an algebra problem solver software system can mean the difference in passing or failing. Most students cannot afford a tutor and they are rarely around when you need them anyway. With an algebra solver you will have access to the answers you need, anytime when necessary.

Google Joins the Internet Phone Revolution

    March 26th, 2009

Its not so long ago that the idea of free phone calls over the Internet would have been thought an impossibility, but as any knowledgeable user will tell you they are now commonplace. Skype the pioneer and market leader has 51 million users and a great, easy to use software package that allows your computer to make Internet phone calls between subscribers.

All you need is a reasonable computer, preferably a broadband connection but it will work over a dial up connection, and a microphone, then as long as the person you want to contact is online and also signed up to the same service, you can talk for ever for no cost.

This is possible because your speech is sent over the Internet in the data packets, just like email or any other Internet service. Microsoft, AOL, BT and Yahoo all have their own instant voice messaging services and now Google has joined in, with the launch of its instant messaging and Internet Phone service Google Talk. The service will be free to all users of its email program Gmail. This must be causing Googles competitors some concern, because as we all know from past, experience when Google does something they always want to be the market leader.

Google Talk will have the traditional uncluttered Google look which users have come to expect, to use Google Talk you must sign up for a Gmail Account. Google is making Google talk an open service, by working with EarthLink to connect with their Vling communications service and with Sipphone on using their Gizmo project, which will mean that users of Google Talk can send messages to users of other networks, unlike all their major rivals.

This means that Google Talk will be free for calls to other networks, unlike the services from AOL, Microsoft, etc where calls are only free between subscribers of their individual services. When it was announced this was seen as such a significant development that Skype immediately responded by announcing that they would also be making their network available to calls from other networks. At the moment Skype also has the advantage that its users can make calls from their computer to a landline or mobile phone, initially Google Talk will only offer Pc to PC communication, I wonder how long that will remain the case?

To start, with Google Talk will be free from adverts but that will probably change in the future, it is hoped that the launch of the service will increase the use of Gmail, where Google earns income by placing adverts targeted at the subject matter of the email.

This is a very significant step in the development of Internet phone calling services using VoIp and I expect that Google will make every effort to become the market leader.

    A Chinese Lantern Festival Legend

    March 23rd, 2009

Yet another common legend dealing with the origins of the Chinese Lantern Festival speaks of a beautiful bird that flew from heaven down to earth, it was hunted and killed by some villagers. This angered the Jade Emperor in Heaven as the bird was his favorite. He then planned a storm of fire aiming to destroy the village on the 15th lunar day. The Jade Emperor’s daughter heard of this, warning villagers of her father’s plan to destroy the village. The village was then in turmoil simply because no one knew how should they escape the village’s imminent destruction. A wise man from another village suggested that each family should hang red lanterns around their houses, set up bonfires on the streets, and explode firecrackers on the 14th, 15th, and 16th lunar days, giving the village the appearance of already being on fire to the Jade Emperor. On the 15th lunar day, troops were sent down from heaven, their mission was to destroy the village. They saw the village was already ablaze and returned to heaven to report to the Jade Emperor. The Jade Emperor was satisfied and decided not to burn down the village. From that day on, people celebrate the anniversary on the 15th lunar day every year by carrying red lanterns on the streets and exploding firecrackers and fireworks.

However, property buyers really are fussy in an area so determined by golden terrain and great surroundings. Indeed it has the whole thing you could long for, etc.

Digital Photo Frames - the Hottest Gift of 2009?

    March 20th, 2009

Digital Photo Frames have been taking the UK by storm for the past 2 years, advances in technology means that 2009 brings with it a huge increase in the range of Digital Frames available and at a great price too. Major manufacturers have entered the arena, including brands such as Kodak and Philips, although some of the most popular digital photo frame brands are Cibox and Pictoria.

Digital Photo Frames are available in a range of sizes, starting from small 3.5″ frames right upto 20″ frames, although at the higher end of the market, much like LCD TVs the price increases dramatically. The most popular selling (and most affordable) frames are the 7″ frames, nearly every manufacturer of Digital Photo Frames offers a frame in this size, its effectively the industry standard.

Prices in the UK start from around £25 for a 7″ frame (3.5″ frames are a little cheaper, but are just so small, personally i don’t see the point!) for an unbranded frame and a branded 7″ frame can cost upto around £100.

What makes Digital Photo Frame a popular gift?
Digital Photo Frames are great gifts to share with friends and family, and a great way of displaying family photographs and snaps. No longer do you need a different frame for every snap, with a Digital Photo Frame you can display hundreds of photos all on the same display. Typically most frames will cycle through the selection of snaps stored on the inbuilt memory or on your memory card, alternatively if you really wanted to you could choose to display a single static image, but you really would’nt be getting the most use out of the frame if you chose that option.
