Mont Blanc Grows in Volume from 2003 as Reported by Experts

    December 31st, 2008

New elaborate GPS readings acquired on the 14-15th September have proven that Monte Bianco measures 4810.4 metres. Mount Blanc is covered by a thick ice cap which has increased by 2.7 metres in not even 2 yrs however more unexpectedly the bulk of the ice has all but grown twofold . At least that is as reported by the professionals.

The bulk of snow and ice was measured for the inaugural time in 2003. It amounted to 14400 cubic metres above 4760 metres. It equaled only 13600 cubic meters in 2004 possibly due to the heat wave with plus temperature as high as 4800 meters elevation. However the ice has almost doubled since then and today numbers 24000 cubic metres.

Chamonix village’s renowned near by weather forecaster Elizabeth Hosler explained the increment in the mass of the ice cap is one of the counter intuitive consequences of global warming: Snow hasn’t grown overall in the French Alps simply with global warming we are having more warm westerly air currents that bring in rainfall at lower altitudes however during summer this results in significant snowfall that falls at higher altitude than 3900 meters elevation hence the mass bulk of the ice cap is rising. Counterpoint this to the state of affairs during wintertime when the snow crystals are extremely cold and are transported by the wind so don’t rest on the peak.

Chamonix village is not only infamous for Monte Bianco it is also a world renowned skiing field and alpinism mecca with many holiday deals and luxury chalets to be rented. And at merely one hour from Geneva airport it is unbeatable for a short break.

A Guide to Omega 3 and Depression

    December 30th, 2008

    Natural remedies for depression…

Because of the negative side-effects associated with prescription anti-depressants, many people suffering from the symptoms of mild to moderate depression are looking at natural remedies. Several studies over the last seven years have established that there is a link between Omega 3 and depression relief.

In three of these studies involving dietary supplementation of Omega 3 fatty acids, which are found in several food sources including olive oil and especially fish oil, depression was often lifted somewhat after four weeks and greatly relieved after six to eight weeks. The results of studies using both EPA and DHA were more promising than the studies which used either of these two fatty acids alone.

Depression can also be a symptom of a vitamin deficiency, particularly a dietary deficiency of the B-complex, so a multi-vitamin supplement is often also suggested as one of the natural remedies for depression in addition to fish oils.

Other natural remedies and depression relief techniques include a regular exercise program, adequate sleep, meditation and eating a balanced healthy diet, rich in fruits, vegetables (particularly leafy greens) and fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, herring and sardines.

    Fish Oil Depression

One fish that especially naturally high in crucial DHA and EPA is called the Hoki, which is native to the deep waters off of the coast of New Zealand. Hoki is used in some of the highest quality fish oil supplements.

In short, people looking for Omega 3 and depression relief may want to look into fish oils made from Hoki.

Fortunately, in recent years, much more has been written on the subject of natural remedies for depression relief, omega 3 and depression relief and the fish oil depression link. User’s Guide to Natural Remedies for Depression by Linda Knittel contains information on easing and preventing depression and advice on when to seek professional help.

Depression can be a very serious mental disorder and anyone suffering from it should seek professional advice from a physician, psychiatrist or psychologist.

Anyone who is currently taking an anti-depressant should consult their physician before trying certain herbs which are often touted for depression like St. John’s wort or SAM-e.

These natural remedies and depression medications, although effective for many, can also cause side effects. Supplements of Omega 3 and depression prescriptions are often taken at the same time, but it’s never advisable to do so unless you let your doctor know first.

How To Tell Your Family About Your Depression

    December 28th, 2008

Before you proceed with this step, decide if you need to tell them. While you are coming to grips with the idea that there is nothing wrong with being depressed, not everybody is as open-minded. Decide what your motivation is for telling them and then, if it makes sense to do so, proceed with your plan.

The best way to tell them is to decide who you need to tell and when. Also decide who will be the most supportive, these are the people to tell first. Explain to them how you have been feeling and how you are working to get better. By showing that you are making progress, you can reassure them and yourself that you are not on a downward spiral.

The next thing to do is decide how to tell the less supportive members of your family. You want to do two things here. The first is to discuss with your therapist what the best way to talk to your family is. Would it be a group session? Would it be somewhere neutral, such as a restaurant? The second is to make sure that the family member or members who know and are supportive will be present.

To tell them, make sure you start by stressing the normalcy of the condition, and you might want to tell them that it was not caused by them. It’s a process that can be compared to coming out of the closet, and you would want to make sure that in telling them, you are not harming yourself. The important thing is to remember that if nothing positive can come from telling them, then it is not worth it to do so yet.

    Excessive Exercise and Eating Disorders

    December 28th, 2008

In our society, the perceived perfect image of women falls right in line with the slenderness of girls 10 to 12 years old. This unrealistic perception spawned by the supermodels seen today in ads for popular clothing and undergarment makers such as Victoria’s secret has caused many women to become obsessed with their own images.

In our society, women are ten times more likely to develop eating disorders and compulsive exercise habits that can be life threatening and often do prove to be fatal.
Here are the most commonly developed eating disorders:

“Anorexia nervosa” is a life threatening disorder that occurs when you eat very little food and become obsessed about your weight even when you are badly underweight. An anorexic person will often see themselves as being fat when they look at themselves in the mirror even though they appear very skinny to everyone else. People with this disorder often turn to laxatives and various diet aids such as fat burning pills to bring their weight down to dangerous levels.

“Bulimia” is a disorder that occurs when you go on an eating binge, and then immediately purge it all out. You will eat a large amount of food, even junk food, and then get it all back out of your system by both self-induced vomiting and laxative use. This practice may throw off your body’s mineral balance in the blood and put the health of your heart at risk.

“Compulsive overeating” followed by “compulsive over exercising” is a pattern that is not as dangerous as anorexia and bulimia but still can lead to both physical and psychological problems. This is a pattern in which you will eat a large amount of food followed up immediately by exercising excessively hard and for a long period of time.

It is estimated that more than one out of three collage female athletes may at one time develop an eating disorder. If you suffer from an eating disorder, seek medical help as soon as possible because if left untreated, these disorders can cause permanent health problems and even death.

How to Develop a Happy and Healthy Workplace

    December 28th, 2008

    > Employees withhold 2/3 of what they are capable of contributing to a company in the form of talents, skills, experience, information and ideas.

    >Workers can’t help but be indifferent and apathetic when they are pursuing someone else’s objectives. Ownership is the key to corporate success and constructive change.

    >Trust employees with sensitive information. This doesn’t mean you share everything with them. It does mean that you keep them informed about what is going on and how it will effect them.

    > Give the people you lead meaningful input into destiny decisions.

    > If you are ever going to maximize corporate potential, you must do everything in your power to maximize human potential.

    > Your workers are your business. When you eliminate people problems, your business is bound to improve.

    > The chief task of a leader is to restore and maintain optimism, enthusiasm and morale.

    > If your team mission statement is to be credible and relevant, its vision and values must be more than a framed statement on the wall. There must be a constant challenge to become what we collectively say we are.

    > Who tells you honestly and openly what you need to know, but don’t want to hear? If the answer is ” No one” you are in trouble and so is your company, school, organization etc.

    > If there is a problem ,ask for solutions. Listen carefully, apply the suggestions given and suspend your own judgment. You will be surprised how quickly and effectively the problem gets solved without your dominant input.

    > If people are your greatest resource, then corporate behaviour must show it.

    > Treat the people you work with the way you want to be treated.

    > Mark Twain said that he could live contented for two months on one compliment. Compliment generously and genuinely.

    > Never take credit for another’s idea.

    > Never give out, “YOU ARE SPECIAL” buttons in an attempt to improve morale.

    > Encourage the people you lead to ask, “WHY” questions. Don’t be threatened by them.

Using Delivery, Routing and Scheduling Software with GPS, CAD, GIS Data from Aviation

    December 27th, 2008

Well in aviation the toys for pilots are getting a lot better, for instance the GPS-PDAs with sectional charts on them. Also lots of other data like the J-Aide and Jeppeson airport contacts once you arrive. All this makes flying easier, less complicated and more enjoyable. AvMap EKP-III C

    http://www.avshop.com/catalog/product.html?productid=3781

and even more cool are the ones with all the bells and whistles; Such as loading it with an International Data Base. Hell now the CIA can have all the civilian data along with their intelligence information. Of course this newest Industry finds itself with many new players as pilots are generally not having a problem affording new toys and it saves all those large flight bags and Knee Boards and clips. You can still buy the clipboards and I have one when I drive the Blitz Mobile mobile command center across the country hunting for the latest technologies it has maps and important numbers to do business from the highway. Many truck drivers and railroad conductors use such boards and in the NAVY Pilots use them and even probably torpedo bombers did too; remember George Bush Senior flew a torpedo bomber?

    Back to our GPS Toys and PDA devices; Another one of the more unique ones is the EnFlight Text Weather Devise which you can google to get all the specs, definitely worth a look see. All of these devises also allow for National Security so no more private pilots in C-182s fly into restricted areas;

    http://www.faa.gov/NTAP/SPECIALNOTAMS/Spec…s_graphics_.htm .

These companies are also careful whom they send these devises to, for obvious reasons. Just think you could be flying your own private plane with a little PDA devise and go have a blast with your newfound freedom. Another cool devise and one of my favorites is the Pocket test which you can look up on Google. This is a cool devise to help you from getting lost and it has just about too many features to list, too bad it was not Windows CE based, I just cannot trust the longevity of Palm in the market place and hope our military is not so stupid to buy into there hype for military versions. One thing going for it is its size. Very small.

We did like the MapTech unit also because we can use it on a laptop, Handheld GPS unit of PDA GPS unit, with terrain CAD capabilities. This unit has many other purposes for General Civil Engineering, Forestry, Mobile Car Washing scheduling and routing, Aviation, Hiking, Fishing, Diving, Trucking, you name it. It also has features from NOAA for weather; I would recommend this as the best all-purpose unit I have thus yet found. It also works with ESRI software. So we like this for its versatility across industries. Good for us too with the blitz mobile to take the route with the least amount of hills for fuel consumption conservation and wear and tear on a 300,000-mile truck. Another of the best units we looked at was the

    http://www.teletype.com/pages/tracking.html

    which can be used like a Top Secret “Bloodhound Unit” and we can use this for car wash truck tracking, can be used for just about any real use to help you find your self or units. This is a way we can covertly track our units so employees do not screw off and kill profits and lie about where they were and how long they were there. Also in our survey we looked at the SatellinkTech units and found a lot of other cool features there;

    http://www.satellinktech.com/product/merlin_air_main.htm .

This is a great tool, like the other units is does provide real time data such as; Airport observations and forecasts (text), Area forecasts (text), Upper wind forecasts (text), Pilot reports (text and onboard processed graphics), Icing and Turbulence forecasts (graphical), Status of restricted, prohibited, and military training airspace (text and onboard processed graphics), Location of other aircraft on instrument flight plans (onboard processed graphics), FAA alerts and advisories, Aircraft Situational Display.

What is also of interest is how much all these companies work together so that they can provide all the same data to all their customers. This does not mean one is not better than the other. For our purposes we chose the Tele Type unit with all the features, which we may implement in the future. I hope this review of products has assisted you in learning more about the technology. Many of these PDA technologies will be available for nearly any business small or large.

    The Pigment Principle (part 2)

    December 26th, 2008

Now that summer is upon us, the sun is directly overhead and the bright colors we wear in this season look their best because the sunlight is shining directly overhead. Bright colors look natural during this time of the year. That’s why fuchsia, spring green and bright yellow look at out of place in the winter; the sun is lower in the sky, nature does not have flowers blooming in the landscape, and those bright colors almost look muddied … back to the summer, where we are!

There are an abundance of shades of green to choose from; lime green, soft apple green, deep forest, olive, and list the goes on. Bright lime green looks best on young people with clear complexions. The brightness of lime reflects light and draws attention to our skin so that if you have blemishes, strong lines, etc., on your face, they will be more evident when you wear brights. Apple green is popular right now because so many people look soft, confident and calm when they wear it. Olive and deep forests greens add to a person’s aura of stability and dependability. In business or when you entertain, wearing green is great for introducing a new, invigorating idea, plan or product. Greens can be tricky to wear because of the yellow combined with the blue.

Yellow does not work with all skin tones especially if you have been sick, had a headache or an upset stomach. When our PH is out of balance from not feeling well, more bile is released in our system which can make the skin appear more yellowish. If you wear yellow or a yellow green color when you are “under the weather”, more people will notice that you don’t feel well because the yellow clothing will draw attention to the extra yellow tone of your skin. Yellow as a color is so bright; everyone notices the color and you in it. If you want to make a dramatic entrance, yellow makes it easy to be noticed right away. We associate yellow with bright, cheerful, sunny days. If you are working with a project that has lost its steam, wearing yellow when you try a new approach will make for a high-energy impact. So, wear yellows when you are healthy and feeling great because everyone will see you coming!

Orange communicates that you are in the mood to play. You will notice more people wearing orange in the warm months when we are particularly active in outdoor sports. Orange also revs up an audience and people who are attending all types of games or outdoor activities. If you wear orange in a conservative office setting, however, people might respond inappropriately. Wearing orange, you will be taken more seriously in business if your line of work is “fun in the sun”, sports or the fashion industry. Orange is best at the company picnic rather than inside in the boardroom.

Pink emits youth, energy and enthusiasm. People tend to feel younger when they wear all shades of pink. The brighter the pink the more attention you draw to yourself. This is great if you are leading a meeting, or find yourself the center of attention at a function. The soft shades of pink help others see you as reassuring. If you are going to be dealing with a person who is upset or you are the one delivering bad news, soft pink will keep them calmer and will not provoke them emotionally. If you have to conduct an exit interview, wearing pastel pink could keep a volatile situation from escalating into emotional fireworks. If you have to fire someone, don’t wear red!!

Purple lets people know you “think outside the box”, see yourself as unique and don’t believe you are obligated to follow the mainstream.

    Home Theater Accessories: Endless Options

    December 24th, 2008

Your home theater is the central room for entertainment in your house and you want to make sure you get the right accessories to make it the best it can be. Some home theater accessories can be decorative while others are functional - and some like your TV might even be both!

How you decorate your home theater is a matter of personal preference, some folks like to have it look like an old time movie theater with vintage seats and a popcorn machine while others simply want a comfy couch to sit in. Still others don’t care about the décor and want to put all their money into getting the best electronic accessories they can afford.

When you are designing your home theater, you are going to have many options to take into consideration. This is often the most difficult thing that you will have to deal with when designing your home theater. The amount of accessories that are available are endless; and even though you may have a hard time choosing, this is also a good problem because you will always be able to find what you need after a little bit of searching.

There are many options here - you can go with a home theater in a box where everything you need is included, you can have a home theater consultant come in and design the system for you or, you can buy the pieces yourself separately and put together a custom system with all the parts that way you want it.

One of the most popular home theater accessories have to do with your stereo set up. Many people buy extra speakers to set up so that their home theater has surround sound. Even though this is not a necessity in order to have a solid home theater, it can definitely help. In addition, a large music collection may be something that you want to look into. In order to take your home theater to the next level, you can add hundreds of DVDs and CDs to your collection. This will go a long way in ensuring that you can always entertain your audience regardless of who they are or what kind of mood they are in.

Home theater accessories can be bought in a number of different places. Most people head to an electronics super store first. Here, you will be able to find hundreds of accessories that you can buy to customize your home theater. In addition, you may want to go online to check out one of the hundreds of online stores that sell home theater equipment.

Home theater accessories consist of hundreds of different options. Even though you will never be able to have every accessory that is available on the market today, you can at least buy a couple as a way to customize your set up. If money is an issue, you can start small and work your way up or even buy used components and save up for the super duper system that you really want.

No matter what you buy in the way of home theater accessories, having your friends and family around to enjoy your entertainment system with you is sure to make it the best home theater in town!

Skin diseases and their natural cure

    December 24th, 2008

THE perfect skin goes far to make a woman look beautiful. The hygiene of the skin reflects the general hygiene of the body. But even when there are skin diseases like black heads, blotches, pimples, a sallow, mothy or greasy skin, there is a cure.

Health comes first as a good skin requisite, health born of exercise, wholesome food, plenty of soap and water. Take care of the skin locally. Avoid the direct rays of the sun; avoid exposure to wind, and dirt, lest your skin turn coarse and rough. Water does not injure the skin, nor dry out its natural oils. Use soft water for cleaning face and hands. If the water you have available is hard, soften with salt, borax or baking soda, add bran or a quarter cup of almond meal to make water more soothing to a tender skin.

If chapping, warm a bath, tepid water, a soft soap, plus olive oil massage or toilet powder will remedy it. Cold water in the morning (it stimulates) and warm water at night is a good washing rule. Never use a cheap, but always a good soap, Castile preferably. Green soap (potash soap) is meant for oily scalps and only irritates dry skins. Though medicated soaps are useful for some skin diseases, they should be used only on a doctor’s orders.

Thorough, careful drying lends color to the cheeks and increases circulation, and cream and powder are good skin protectors if rightly used and removed. If the skin has been exposed to sun or wind, rub cold cream well into it. Then remove with a damp cloth, and follow by washing in cold water.

Vanishing cream, greaseless, is a good face powder foundation, and a skin protector. Always remove cream from the face before going to bed, and in general use it only every alternate day. No complexion stands cream day in, day out, nor does cream take the place of soap and water. Cream, if not removed, clogs the skin pores. Clogged pores mean black heads, and black heads cause other skin affections. Clogged pores, too, are responsible for yellow, sallow complexions.

Oily skin, often accompanied by enlarged pores, black heads and pimples, should be treated before worse ensues. Use a soap made of a cup of oatmeal or boiled oats, a pinch of sulphur, a pinch of powdered benzoin, and a teaspoonful of Castile soap, shaved fine, mixed, in a small cheesecloth bag. An application in warm water twice a day, should correct the oily tendency.

Sunburn and Freckles.– Four lotions: 1. Two teaspoonfuls of benzoin in pint of cold water. Bathe face night and morning. 2. Mix flour of sulphur with milk, and rub into skin when the mixture has settled a couple of hours. To be applied in small quantities daily. 3. One drachm muriatic acid, to which half-teaspoon of spirits of lavender has been added. 4. Three drachms carbonate of potassium, two drachms common salt, eight ounces rosewater, a little orange or lavender flower water. Mix and make frequent applications.

Freckles — Two lotions: 1. One ounce lemon juice, one pint rosewater. Apply to skin four, five or six times a day. 2. One drachm muriatic acid, half teaspoonful spirits of lavender, one pint rainwater. Apply carefully to freckles, using camel’s-hair brush.

Blackheads — It is not well to steam out black heads. It does cleanse the skin and the black heads have to go. But it also relaxes the skin, and brings forth a crop of early wrinkles. Better is the use of one of the following lotions. 1. One and one-quarter ounces of Green soap, two and one-half drachms alcohol, two and one-half drachms glycerine, one and one-half drachms borax. 2. Two and a half drachms rosewater, two and a half drachms spirits of lavender, two and a half ounces alcohol. After they have been rubbed in, the blackheads may be removed with a watch key. Never risk infection by squeezing out black-heads with the fingers. Once they are removed, close the pores with alcohol.

Pimples and Blotches. — An absolutely clean skin has no pimples. Hence the cleaner your skin, the less likely pimples are to appear. Women are more apt to have pimples than men, but are also more skilled in removing them. “Acne” is a spread of pimples due to improper blood conditions. It usually occurs during puberty, and calls for medical treatment. The use of salves is not recommended and though carbolated vaseline tends to dry pimples up, it increases oily skin conditions.

A purely surface pimple, after an alcohol wipe, may have its head (the little yellow point) pricked. After the pus has been squeezed out, clean with a bit of cotton soaked in alcohol. The use of warm water and Ivory soap with a flesh brush, rinsing with cold water (and after drying, steaming the face every fourth day), should cause pimples to disappear. A grateful and healing lotion, too, may be made by mixing an ounce of tincture of haxnamelis with an equal amount of warm water, and applying frequently.

Tan and Moth Spots. –Too many coats of tan–Nature’s skin protection against sunburn — coarsen the skin. The so called “moth spots,” brown spots or patches which appear after middle life, are due to this tan pigment. Any lotion which is efficacious for freckles is good for tan. A teaspoonful of milk, to which a little common salt has been added, may be applied at night and washed off in the morning. Another good lotion is made up of two ounces of lemon juice, a half drachm of borax, powdered, one drachm of powdered white sugar.

It should stand for several days before using, then be applied as in the preceding case. A mixture of lemon juice and carbonate of magnesia is also valuable in correcting skin discolorations. It should be allowed to remain some time after it has been applied to the skin.

Warts and Moles. –Moth spots are only “bleached” by these lotions, and usually have to be removed by the specialist. A good dermatologist can easily remove the small, brown moles which are often encountered. An old-fashioned remedy, yet one which “works,” is: when the mole protrudes enough, to wind a hair tightly around it. If the hair is allowed to remain, the mole gradually detaches itself and falls off. Small moles should be at once removed, lest they grow larger. The same applies to raised, colorless moles. Red moles should never be touched. Cancer often results if an attempt be made to remove them.

Warts are usually harmless. They are apt to disappear of their own accord. In general, your family physician or a skin specialist of standing should be consulted for any serious skin disorder. Avoid the common run of beauty doctors, and the “home treatment” salves and ointments, for all troubles that go beyond tan, sunburn, freckles, pimples, blackheads and chapping.
