    Weeding The VoIP Garden

    September 27th, 2008

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is fast becoming the way for the world to communicate and the VoIP market jungle is full of weeds wanting to become trees.

VoIP has been around for the public market since 2002 and you can only find about a handful of stand alone VoIP service providers. Vonage who is the king of marketing still clings to its “Woo Hoo” song and their ever rising marketing costs and lower profits. Packet8, the old pioneer of Internet phone service, is chugging away while building up consumer confidence and new innovative VoIP products. We see Lingo, who likes to push their International calling plans, struggling to regain ground on the rest of field, and the new kid in the garden, SunRocket, who brings their trusty Bottom-Line pricing along for the new growth of VoIP. These and a few other companies are around for the long haul.

It is important in these early growth stages to weed out those who are trying to choke out the main growth. These are VoIP providers who are only in for the early money grabbing glory days and will die off when the heat starts to beat down on them.

If you are looking for a new VoIP service provider you need to take a few hours and weed out the jungle. You can check out the online VoIP news reports for their achievements and future plans, find and study the VoIP forums. Internet phone providers who have little or no news at all are mainly the ones that will die out. You’ll find that the strong growing VoIP companies are bringing new and improve products and services to the field everyday. Researching like this can be tough going and very time consuming.

Another option is to locate an independent VoIP, broadband or telecommunication consultant who is consistently researching and learning about the new VoIP services and products offered. These consultants are not being paid by just one provider or company to sell only their products. They are able to give you unbiased advice concerning the services you are considering. They can tell you the pros and cons of each individual provider even for those who they don’t represent.

Using an independent telecom consultant will ease the pain and time in finding that right VoIP or broadband phone provider especially in this weed choked Internet phone garden. An independent consultant will be able to inform you of what all of the top VoIP providers are doing with new services, products and future plans for the leading VoIP solutions. The great thing is you get all of your information in a few minutes and its free (Do Not Pay For Consulting).

Make Free Internet Phone Calls With VoIP And Save A Ton Of Money On Phone Bills

    September 27th, 2008

Have you heard all the buzz about VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is an emerging technology which allows you to make telephone calls over the Internet - many times for free. It is already starting to replace existing telephone networks, with many people and businesses choosing to cancel their traditional phone line and use VoIP instead. Why? Price. Consumer are finding that they can save a lot of money using VoIP technologies.

Originally developed to provide voice communication between computer users in different locations, in recent years, VoIP has been further developed into a telephone network in its own right. People using VoIP can call any telephone anywhere in the world and can receive calls on telephone sets connected to the Internet.

Currently, there are quite a few VoIP services available for consumers to choose from. Some of these still rely on PC-to-PC connections but many VoIP providers offer other services such as PC-to-phone and phone-to-phone connection.

In order to use VoIP, both parties need a broadband connection. This is a high-speed Internet connection usually provided by a cable or DSL modem- broadband modems are usually used to connect computers to the Internet.

The simplest form of VoIP is a computer-to-computer voice connection. This is also the type of connection which allows users to make free phone calls over the Internet.

All that is required to make your first free call over the Internet is a computer, a headset consisting of earphones and microphone, and VoIP software. The VoIP software can be downloaded from the service provider’s site. The best thing is that most software packages are free and allow you to connect to any computer running the same software.

There is no charge for this type of connection and calls can be made to anywhere in the world free of charge. If you choose you could also use an Internet telephone that plugs into the sound card or USB port on your computer. However, this is an additional expense which is really not necessary.

Until recently, the major disadvantage with computer-to-computer calls was that both parties had to have the same kind of software installed in order to make a connection; but things are changing now and emerging technology is beginning to allow users to make calls to users utilizing different VoIP software. Almost every software package, however, has the ability to connect with landline or cellular phones.

    How It Works

Although each VoIP software package is different, most VoIP software function the same way. Usually, you can call another person on the network by typing in their user name or number. If that person is online they will see a popup box alerting them that you want to talk. The other party can see who is calling and can choose to either accept or reject the call.

Before the popup appears, however, there has already been some communication between the two computers. The VoIP software has information about the speed of your Internet connection and the type of code that can be used to compress and decompress audio data. When a call request is made, both computers negotiate which code is going to be used to make allowances for the connection speed.

Other types of VoIP Services are available which allow you to make PC-to-Phone connections, and also calls that do not involve the use of your computer at all. Although these premium services vary in price, in most cases by using VoIP technology you will be saving a significant amount of money on your phone bills each month.

We show you how You CAN make cheap international calls and lower your phone bills through the use of cheap prepaid phone cards, call back services, cheap international phone cards, dial-arounds, VoIP, internet calling and more at http://www.make-cheap-international-phone-calls.com

See RSS Feeds from Your Website

    September 24th, 2008

RSS feeds have made it so convenient to gather current information. If you have an RSS Reader on your desktop, then from this one window you can get up-to-date information from any sources of your choice, such as:

    1. Latest news from news agencies

    2. Last articles published on ezines such as this one

    3. New products at retail outlets

    4. New movie reviews

    5. Recent entries in blogs

The list is endless, but you get the idea.

How would you like to give this convenience to the visitors of your website? Your visitors can see RSS feeds with latest info right on your web page instead of going from site to site. And it is very easy to install.

Before you start I suggest that you see some sites which display RSS feeds just to get a feel of it. You can see your My.Yahoo page from where you can subscribe to any RSS feed you want. Or, if you like, you can see some popular feeds on my website:

    http://sanjay-j.com/feed.html

Ok, let’s get started with these easy steps.

    1. Click open this page :

    http://www.feedroll.com/rssviewer/

    2. From “Step One” of this page select just one RSS feed out of the dropdown list.

    3. Lower on the page in “Step Two” you will see some options. In these options you can fill in your values or leave them at default setting.

    4. Click on update button.

    5. A similar looking page opens. Down below on this page in “Step Three” there is a code which has to be installed on your website. Copy this code and paste it on a text editor. On right side of the page you can see how the feed will look on your page.

    6. Go to step 2 and select some other RSS feeds. Repeat steps 3 to 5 and you will have a collection of codes to be installed on your website.

    7. Select the web page where you want to install RSS feeds. I would suggest creating a new page exclusively for RSS feeds.

    8. Decide the location on the web page for installing RSS feed. In the HTML code of the web page, paste one of the codes of RSS feeds at the location you have decided.

    9. See how RSS feeds looks on your page. You will need to be connected to the net to see the feeds. You can make necessary corrections until you get the right appearance.

    10. Add all other RSS feed codes below the first one. Separate each code with breaks. This will put all the feeds in one column.

So that’s it. Simple steps. This will display some popular RSS feeds on your web site using Java. From this starting point you can think of installing other Java scripts or PHP scripts to display any RSS feeds of your choice.

Sanjay Johari regularly contrubutes articles for several ezines. See his site for useful information for benefit of small business owners.

Blog Posts Linger On The Web Forever - What It Means To Your Profits

    September 21st, 2008

PPC (Pay-per-click) ads are very effective. The only problem is that you have to pay to keep the ads running. The same is true with every form of promotion or advertising that you can think of. Even directories and websites that post other people’s articles periodically clean out older, less relevant content.

That’s the big difference between blog posts and other content on the net. Blog posts linger on the World Wide Web forever. This can be a huge disadvantage in that any scandal or negative story about your business will always be out there long after the issue has been resolved, settled and forgotten. But why worry about things you can’t change? Why dwell on the negative when you can cash in big on the positive?

You Can Earn Cash From A Single Blog Post For Years

For those of us who were direct marketers in the offline days, this really is a big thing. You make a single post, like the one I recently came across about the new Chitika eMiniMalls PPC (pay-per-click) ads making more money for some blogger than Adsense ads. There are already hundreds of sites linking to this particular post, meaning that it will continue to receive heavy traffic for a long time to come. On closer examination I realized that the blogger responsible for the post is really a smart cookie because the blog post is littered with his affiliate links to the Chitika eMiniMalls PPC program. Judging from the hits he’s received so far, he’s already made a handsome return on his affiliate program. But picture this; he will continue to do so from this single post for such a long time that this single revenue stream could easily outlive him.

Little wonder that some sites that were only recently starved of visitors have quickly built a blog or two pointing to their site and within a few short months have found themselves with a crowd-control problem on their website.

As In Life, The Older Your Blog Post, The More Links It Accumulates

The mystery behind the huge success of blogs is in one word - links. The power of this rapid linking on the blogosphere can best be illustrated when you post something really controversial. Like prison torture photographs or corporate secrets of a famous Fortune 500 company. Hundreds and maybe thousands of other blogs link to you in a flash and suddenly your blog has a huge audience and the sort of 7 digit traffic figures that ordinary sites take years of sweat and tears to build.

That’s the ideal situation. But we don’t all have controversial torture photographs from some prison. So what happens is that the process of linking and building up traffic is much slower for many ordinary blogs. Actually it is closer to the real-life situation. When a person gets their start in a certain career, it takes them years to build up useful contacts (the equivalent of links in the offline world).

That’s why it is an important advantage that blog posts remain for a long time. It means that over a certain period of time, you can be busy building up your links and within a relatively short period of time you could easily find that you have a huge online audience. And you will have achieved this from doing little else than ensuring that your posts are of good quality and then being just a little patient.

Say you had about 50 posts at your blog and over a period of three months or so, each of those posts accumulated about 50 links each (not a very difficult feat to achieve). You would end up with 2,500 links, which should give you very high traffic on a daily basis. Now remember that your posts will linger for ages on the net and all the time, you are still accumulating even more links and hopefully creating new posts all the time.

This explains the reason why blogs with a higher number of posts always tend to have much higher traffic than blogs with a lower amount of posts.

Now you are beginning to understand the real power of blogs and blogging.

Topic Selection a Key to Profitable Blogging

    September 18th, 2008

Blogs may have originated as a means of online journal writing and community building, but the use of this model won’t accomplish much for the online entrepreneur. Unless your cats are far cuter than every other bloggers’ or unless you are an amazingly interesting person with some tremendous writing talents, your personal blog will get lost in the chorus of voices that crowd the world of blogs. In order to making blogging profitable, one must select a good topic upon which to focus.

Topic selection is at the very root of blogging success. The idea is to choose a topic area in which you can be competitive. Optimally, you can find a blogging niche that is underserved yet has a high level of interest. This will allow you to attract a great deal of visitors more easily which, of course, translates into higher profit levels.

There are a few factors to consider when choosing the subject area for a “money blog.” First, one may want to attempt to find a subject area in which they have a personal interest, especially if they plan on writing their own content. This is because successful blogs require regular updates and it can become difficult to regularly produce quality information if one has no real interest in a topic. If someone opts to hire a writer to produce their blog posts, however, this is a far less important factor.

Second, one should strive to find a topic area in which interest is at least relatively high. You may be able to rule the search engines on the topic of “17th century wooden paperweights,” but there are so few, if any, people with an interest in the subject. Thus, that number one ranking in Google will not produce the kind of traffic stream you will need to turn a healthy profit. It may be more difficult to enter a more competitive marketplace, but the potential rewards are far greater, too. The key to this element of topic selection, however, is not just writing a blog on a hot topic. It is finding a field from which a healthy number of visitors can be culled.

Third, one will want to find a market that is underserved. Basically, you are looking for a strong disparity in the number of interested parties and the amount of readily available information. If you can find a topic in which many people are interested but that is not well-covered online, you will be sitting upon a potential blogging gold mine. It is perfectly acceptable to build a wonderful blog and to expend the effort to compete in a more crowded area, but this does require much more work. Finding an underserved niche and filling a hole in the marketplace is a much easier way to produce blogging revenue.

Choosing a topic for your moneymaking blog can be a challenging process. This first step, however, is probably one of the most important. The choice of a topic not only establishes the nature of the blog, it also (in large measure) determines its potential for success.

  • Gain Knowledge about Income Draw down - Financial Guide

    September 14th, 2008

When you get to your final working hours you do not have to extract your pension fund instantly. Instead, you may come to a decision to put-off obtaining an income until the mature old age of 75 and if you do so you may well find you will get a more worthwhile deal. It’s referred to as income drawdown.

When you are somewhere aged between fifty & seventy-five you are entitled to postpone the possession of your pension annuity from one of a number of insurance businesses. Instead, you are allowed to pull out as much as 120% of the retirement fund that could have been paid for using Government Actuary rates, and leave the remaining savings safe for when you need it. On your part, all you ought to do is to make certain that you pay for an annuity by the instance you are 75.

But, what would take place if you opted to take the income drawdown choice, and then passed away? Then your present other half or those responsible would then get three decisions: accept a lump sum, less tax at 35%, or alternatively maintain with income taking out, or acquiring an annuity with the financial investments. Your current partner has until they get to sixty years old to put-off the attainment of a pension annuity, however no benefits are permitted to be offered in the meantime.

Why pick income draw down? Well first and foremost because it might end in you earning a more well-paid salary from your particular pension by doing so. You can also select precisely when you want to buy the pension annuity, therefore if you leave work at a time when annuity rates are low, waiting may be a wiser decision. If the outstanding assets increase as believed, then together with the reality that annuity rates develop with age, you may ultimately be able to procure a higher pension than you probably would have got in the beginning. To get all the latest information on Pension Draw, visit First Place Financial!

What’s more, it also means that when you depart this world your other half or those responsible are taken care of financially, since they are correctly entitled to the outstanding resources, as discussed earlier.

Like all financial investments, there are perils as a consequence though. If investment performance on the remaining stocks & shares is poor, then the extent of retirement wage payable could fall. And it’s important to be aware that there is no assurance that the pension purchased will in the end be higher than the full figure that could have been purchased at the kick-off.

How to Organize a Successful Bad Sweater Party

    September 12th, 2008

“Hey Scott, would you like to go to a Bad Sweater Party this weekend?”

    “A what party?!” I said.

“A Bad Sweater Party. Wait a minute…you mean to tell me you’ve never been to a Bad Sweater Party before?” asked Amber.

    “Guess not,” I admitted.

A Bad Sweater Party is exactly what you think it is: A party at which the guests wear bad sweaters.

Nobody can be certain where this idea originated. It’s possible that it came about during the 80’s when ALL sweaters were bad sweaters. Nevertheless, my first Bad Sweater Party experience was, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable nights I have ever had. (And I only knew one person there!)

One week before the party I began to plan out my wardrobe. Looking through my drawers, I couldn’t find anything that could have been classified as a “bad sweater.” At least, that’s what I told myself. I figured that since the bulk of the bad sweaters in the world were worn between 1971 and 1994, a thrift store was my best bet for scoring some particularly heinous gear.

When I went to my local Goodwill I approached the counter and asked, “Hi, I’m looking for the ugliest, most out dated, eye sore of a sweater known to man - got anything like that?”

“You must be going to a bad sweater party, huh?”

“Yeah, how did you know that!?”

“I’ve been to a few myself - they’re loads of a fun. Come on, let’s see what piece of crap we can find for you today sir.”

After a good 20 minutes of searching, I found my sweater. I was so bad, it was beautiful! It looked like something your colorblind grandfather wore at a holiday Christmas Party in 1972 that, if it were any tighter, might have also doubled as a leotard.

    And I loved it.

    “I’ll take it!” I said.

Two dollars and forty nine cents later, Amber and I arrived at the Bad Sweater Party. She sported a purple, blue and turquoise gem that could have easily been stolen from the wardrobe room of the Cosby Show. And although I was slightly self conscious about the skin-tightness of my snowflake laden top - as well as not knowing anybody there - everything changed when we walked in the door…

“Hey!! What’s up guys, come on in!” said the host, “Wow those are the ugliest sweaters I’ve ever seen! I love ‘em!”

“Thanks man! Your sweater sucks too! My name is Scott - I’m a friend of Amber’s.”

“Well it’s great to meet you, thanks for dressing up! I’m Joe, welcome to my house.”

When I walked in, I saw sweaters of every decade, every color, every style and every brand. It almost became a game to see who could have the worst sweater of all. But the best part was - the sweaters were horrible, and nobody seemed to care! The crowd was booming with laughter and beaming with positive energy. Everyone talked to everyone. Everyone complimented everyone. And for the next four hours, I experienced the most unbelievable sense of ease, comfort and approachability with a group of complete strangers.

When I got home later that night, I realized that any time you use party themes - especially outrageous ones - they have an invaluable effect on the connectedness of the guests:

    Invite Only
How many times have you been invited to a party that didn’t sound that inviting?

“Robbie’s having a party on Saturday - you should come.”

    Great, see ya there.

On the other hand, when you hear about a theme party, it entices you:

“Come over to Robbie’s on Saturday for his annual Bad Sweater Party!”

    Now that sounds like fun!

    Preparation Solidifies Commitment
Themes also encourage people to go the extra mile. I remember asking other partiers where they had gotten their bad sweaters. Some told me they shopped at local vintage stores; others said they raided their parents’ closets while some even bought them on Ebay! But because they RSVP’ed, and because they searched or even bought a bad sweater, everyone was sure to have fun and stay late.

    What Should I Wear?
Think about the big question guests ask before attending any party:

    “What’s the dress code?”

This always creates ambiguity and often times, improper dress - over or under - can cause guests to feel uncomfortable and therefore unwilling to communicate. But with a theme, you know exactly what to wear, i.e., a bad sweater.

    Apprehension
Themes enhance parties and events because they reduce uncertainty, which is one of the major barriers to communication. The reason people often feel so uncomfortable at parties is because they don’t “fit in.” But when everyone makes the effort to adhere to the theme, everybody fits in, no matter who they are, where they came from or how many people they know.

    Breaking the Ice
Think of all the parties you attended where people just sat around and stared at the wall. Exciting, huh?

Obviously it’s true what Adam Sandler said, “Initiating the conversation is half the battle.” The most effective way to break the ice at a party is to discuss your connection to the host - this generates a CPI, or common point of interest.

But with a theme party, the CPI is already established before you walk in the door. It’s impossible not to socialize with everyone. You can break the ice with anybody, anytime!

How do You Connect Your Guests?
Incorporating a theme into parties and meetings allows your guests to significantly increase their comfort level, approachability and friendliness. The Bad Sweater Party is merely one of many examples, so begin thinking of some theme ideas for your next event. Do this, and you’ll never have to hear the phrase “that party sucked last night,” again.
