Gaming Laptops Are The Best Type
I think I’m correct when I say there are two types of expensive laptops. On one end you have the big, beefy gaming laptops and on the other you have the thin and light ultra portables which are ridiculously expensive. Both command high price tags. Gaming laptops are more practical for everyday use if you’re replacing a desktop whilst the ultra mobiles are the best choice if you are syncing the data with your desktop. The market for ultrea portables is very small and the most popular laptop screen size is 15.4 inch. A new trend seems to be the budget umpc’s laptops that are 12 inch or smaller, low powered and only usable for a few common applications. Where the choice comes to one the gaming laptop will always win as the majority of people who need mobility can still be mobile with the average 15.4 inch size.
The Internal parts make a big difference to the performance of your laptop computer. The mass market notebooks come with cheap components to keep the price down. In the long term this can effect the reliability of your laptop computer. Different components have various types, speeds and frequencies. The RAM, hard disk, processors, video card, come in different performance categories and its smart that you compare like for like. Another overlooked area is the screen resolution. Higher resolution lcd’s are better because they give you more workspace when using the laptop.
When purchasing a gaming laptop the cpu, memory and graphics chip are the most important parts you should consider. You need a cpu with a minimum speed of 2GHz and it must have two cores. 2GB is the minimum amount of ram necessary for playing games. For a gaming laptop you need to have a dedicated video card. Usually you get 256MB dedicated video memory. I think an Nvidia 8600M gpu should be good for playing all the new games well. Anything better is a bonus and will just make frame rates a lot quicker.
Nvidia are going to launch the Geforce 9 Series and ATi are also lauching new chips to compete so things can only look up for gaming enthusiasts. Faster memory in the form of ddr3 is going to be launched and this will mean lower prices for the current DDR2 memory so there should be a gaming laptop in everyone’s price range.
